Funeral services for the late Ms. Anita Michelle "Missy" Wiggins will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Bamberg, SC. Interment services will follow immediately at Thankful Baptist Church Cemetery, Bamberg, SC. Viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Omega Omega services will be conducted by members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Beautiful, loving, caring, humble, giving, wise, smart, hard-working, fair, dedicated, and a child of God..These are just a few words that her family and friends would use to describe Anita Michelle Wiggins, born September 29, 1971 to Mrs. Mildred James Wiggins and the late Mr. Paul Clarence Wiggins in Bamberg, South Carolina. On Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 9:12 p.m., the Gates swung open and God called his "Angel" home to rest. At an early age, she joined the family church, Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, in Bamberg, South Carolina, where she served faithfully as a member of the Gospel Choir, Recording Secretary for Administrative Council, Project POWER Outreach Ministry, United Methodist Women, and Assistant Youth Coordinator. Anita attended Bamberg public schools where she graduated from the Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School in 1989. She attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina in 1993. She later earned her Master's in Counselor Education in 1999 from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, South Carolina. Anita was employed by the Barnwell School District 45 as a dedicated teacher and guidance counselor for 21 years. During her years of serving as an educator to many young children, she was named as Teacher of the Year at Barnwell Elementary School for the 2005-2006 school term. Moreover, she made a powerful impact and everlasting impression on the many students she taught throughout the years. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in which she exemplified a commitment to serve, lead, and empower others within the community and church. "Missy" as she was affectionately called by her family had a beautiful smile and enjoyed shopping, eating out, traveling, going to church, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her mother, Mildred James Wiggins of Bamberg, South Carolina; three loving and devoted sisters: Wanda Wiggins, Orangeburg, South Carolina, Erica (Cleveland) Samuels, Grovetown, Georgia, and Carolyn Harris of Orangeburg, South Carolina; one brother, Kevin (Carla) Holder of Clayton, North Carolina; a faithful companion, Terrell Brown of Orangeburg, South Carolina; special cousin, Sonia Ottley of Orangeburg, South Carolina; six aunts: Thomasina (Raymond) Ottley, Evelyn Sellers, and Helen Steedley all of Bamberg, South Carolina, Susie (Abraham) Sexton of Barnwell, South Carolina, Magalene James, and Hattie James both of Bamberg, South Carolina; one uncle: Charles McMillan of Bamberg, South Carolina; one niece and three nephews; two best friends: Stacey MacPhail and Olivia Collington; three close friends: Brenda Daniels, Denver Malcom Key, and Cassandra Williams; and three special co-workers: Kara Bolen, Phyllis Bryan, and Jenny Carroll. She also leaves a host of other loving relatives, godchildren, and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 1062, Bamberg, South Carolina 29003 in memory of Anita Michelle Wiggins.
