Annie Ruth Black was the last surviving child of thirteen children of the late Harry Thames and Mary Chatman Thames, born on February 25, 1929 in Clarendon County, South Carolina.  She was married on June 26, 1955 to the late Johnny Black.  To this union six children were born.  One infant son, Maynard, and eldest son, Johnny Dennis, preceded her in death.  She departed this life on November 11, 2024 at Lexington Community Hospice House in Lexington, South Carolina following a period of declining health.

In 1967 Sister Black was baptized at the Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ in Denmark, SC according to Acts 2:38.  Shortly thereafter, she received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost.  She was a faithful member and served on the Women's Auxillary until her onset of declining health in 2017.

She was employed at the Denmark Schools in the 1970's.  Her hobbies included sewing, writing poems, singing, reading and baking.  She was also an owner of Sew Smart Alterations in Denmark, SC.

Left to Cherish her memory are:  four children, Dorothea Black Roberts (Donald) of Denmark, SC, Elder Eddie Black (Karen) of Charlotte, NC, Jacqueline Black of Columbia, SC and Randolph Black (Shirley) of Denmark, SC; a grandson, Terence Black of the home; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; seven additional grandchildren who affectionately called her their grandma; two bonus daughters, Gloria Gordon (Randolph) and Linda Johnson (Willie) who affectionately called her "Mom"; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
