Mrs. Annie Mae Haynes, also known as "Granny Bird" to her grands, entered into eternal rest on March 24, 2011. She was born on July 30, 1930 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Israel and Louise Hightower in Bamberg County. Annie attended the public schools in Bamberg. As a young woman she joined Capernaum Baptist Church in Denmark where se served until her health failed. She was married to the late Willie Haynes, Sr. and this union was blessed with four children. Annie is preceded in death by her son Willie Haynes, Jr.; a grandson, Shannon L. Haynes, three sisters and two brothers. Annie leaves to cherish her precious memories: three sons, Bernard Haynes of the home, Robby (Rose) Haynes of North Augusta, GA and Patrick Thompson of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, Natasha Haynes of Atlanta, GA, Coray B. Haynes of Bamberg, SC, Malcom (Mariah) Haynes of Ehrhardt, SC, Lionel Haynes of Augusta, GA, Robby Haynes of Atlanta, GA, Markis Williams of Denmark, SC; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Lessie Mae McCloud of Dillon, SC and Eartha Mae Middleton of Bamberg, SC; five brothers, Johnny (Tina) Hightower of Jamaica, NY, James (Betty Ann) Hightower of Orlando, FL, Israel (Beverly) Hightower of Brooklyn, NY, Eugene (Casey) Hightower of Bamberg, SC, and Herbert (Ruthie) Hightower of Fairfax, SC; one brother-in-law, Herman Haynes of Augusta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Tuesday between 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
