Mrs. Annie Bell Hunter Howard was born on December 23, 1938 in Barnwell, South Carolina, to the late Norman Hunter Sr. and Rosa Daniels Hunter. She departed this life on May 1, 2014 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina, following a brief illness. Mrs. Howard worked for the Blackville Hilda Public School System as a substitute teacher. She also worked as a teacher's aide within the child care industry in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Arizona, and Fort Belvoir, Virginia for many years, devoting her life to the care and well-being of children. Mrs. Howard was a lifetime member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was also a member of New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church in Spring Lake, North Carolina, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Church Mother and mentor to all who knew her. In support of her husband's military career, Mrs. Howard traveled extensively, both internationally and within the United States, creating a warm and loving home for her family. Beloved parents, Norman Hunter Sr. and Rosa Daniels Hunter preceded her in death. Her beloved siblings, Norman Hunter Jr., Julia Hunter Simmons, and Ella Hunter Jackson also preceded her in death. She leaves behind a devoted husband, John Lawrence Howard Sr. of Spring Lake, North Carolina; Three children: John Lawrence Howard Jr. of Georgetown, South Carolina, Denise Howard Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Natalie (Clay) Howard-Robinson of Waldorf, Maryland; Three grandchildren: Brian Patrick Robinson of Atlanta, Georgia, Jordan Roberts of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Kelson Reed of Georgetown, South Carolina; (1) sister, Annie Washington; (2) Nieces, (2) Nephews; Special friends: Robert and Ann Tunnel of Spring Lake, North Carolina; Special cousin, Bernice Daniels Butler of Blackville, South Carolina and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
