Funeral services for the late Mrs. Arabelle Johnson will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Bethel United Methodist Church, Bamberg, SC. Intermemt services will follow immediately at Bamberg Memory Gardens, Bamberg, SC. Viewing for the public will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Arabelle "Bell" Johnson was born on February 13, 1939 on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Horace and Rosalle Aiken. As a youth, she attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in St. Helena Island. Arabelle was educated at St. Helena High School on St. Helena's Island, South Carolina. Following her high school graduation, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to William W. Johnson of Bamberg, South Carolina for 54 years. Her greatest joy was being a stay at home wife and mother. Later in life, after raising her only daughter, she re-entered the workforce, where she was employed by varies companies. While residing in New York, "Belle" was a member of St. Paul's Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Johnny R. Youngblood. Upon returning to Bamberg, South Carolina, she joined Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was an active participant in the Kitchen Committee, The United Methodist Women Organization and Communion Stewardship, until her health declined. Affectionately known as "Belle," she was a kind hearted, gentle and generous person, who loved her family. Her favorite thing to do was spoil her grandchildren and great grands. She loved to cook and feed her family. She is survived by her devoted, loving husband, William of 54 years; her loving daughter, Wanda (Darin) Fields; grandson, Herschel Fields; granddaughter, Ashley (Lionel) Neals; two great grands: Daruis and Asia Neals of New Jersey; a loving god-child, Karen McMillian of Columbia, SC; two sisters: Louise Aiken of Bamberg, SC and Elizabeth Aiken of Queens, NY; one brother-in-law, Howard (Jeanne) Johnson; four sisters-in-law: Barbara McMillian of Bamberg, SC, Sandra Johnson of Capital Heights, MD, Florine Johnson and Elizabeth "Maybe" Aiken, a very special devoted best friend/sister-in-law, and a host of special nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, other relatives and a host of dear friends, who loved her dearly. Arabelle Johnson was called home on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
