Funeral services for Deacon Bennie Walker Jr. will be held on Friday, August 12th at 11:00 am at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment services will follow immediately at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, Cordova, SC. Viewing for the public will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm with a wake scheduled between the hours of 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Bennie Walker Jr….. His amazing life began on September 17, 1909 in Cope SC, the first born of Bennie Walker Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Walker. He first attended school at age six and at the age of ten, he moved to Orangeburg with his aunt and uncle where he continued his education at Dunton School. Early on he dreamed of becoming a teacher. After about two years, he had to leave school and return to the farm to help his father support the family. After that, he left the farm and began working for a local logwood company. Becoming a teacher became a dream unfulfilled.

From the beginning, Deacon Walker's parents introduced their ten children to church life. He became very active in the church and later joined Pine Grove Missionary Baptist. He was a dedicated servant in his community and church. In 1935, he married his devoted wife, the late Ola Harvey. They became the proud parents of five loving children. He worked very hard to make sure his children were raised in the church and received a good education. Deacon Walker wore many hats as he worked as a farmer and machinist at the U.S. Plywood Company from which he retired in 1975.

Deacon Walker was a devoted Christian and diligently served his church until his passing. During many years of service, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, superintendent, clerk, and secretary. He loved to attend Sunday School Conventions and the quarterly Association meetings. Deacon Walker was adamant about attending services at the Orangeburg Council on Aging and Jolly Acres Healthcare Center where he faithfully assisted with devotion for the elderly.

He was such a soft spoken man, a quiet storm who became outspoken in his golden years. Not rich in material wealth, but a billionaire in character, moral strength, faith, health and love. He was a wonderful neighbor, a Good Samaritan, devoted family man, and loyal friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand in times of need. The last living member of his generation, he lived a wonderful, fulfilled life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, C.W, Booty, Son, Tom, and Shellie, and his loving sisters, Ella, Bernice, Janie and Adelle.

He is survived by five children: John Walker of Brooklyn, NY, Elizabeth Williams of Williamstown, NJ, Herman (Elizabeth) Walker of Orangeburg, SC, Orine (Otis) Pelham of St. Pauls, NC and Albertha (Ken) Brown of Homasassa, FL; his grandchildren, Kelvin, Earnest, Kim, Kemel (Kaheem), Derrick (Deborah), Darryl (Sybil), TaTanisha, Andrea, Adrienne (Reggie), Kenny (Rhonda), Shari (Eric), and Timothy; a special nephew, Nathan Izzard and niece Inez (Sonny) West and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and loving relatives and friends.

All will miss him but his legacy will endure.
