Brenda Gail Downing was born on March 15, 1954, in Bamberg, SC to the late James and Adell Downing. She was the fourth of eight children.
Brenda was educated in the public schools of Bamberg, SC.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, dancing, and cooking for her family. She worked in the textile mill until it's closing. Afterwards she worked several jobs including manufacturing, restaurants and childcare. Caring for children was her most passionate job. Brenda was not blessed with any biological children but all the children she cared for were like her own.

Brenda was preceded in death by her siblings, Richardean, Janice, Emma, Cornell and Sylvia "Ann".

She leaves to cherish her memories, one sister, Lillie M. Dowling, Brooklyn NY, one brother, James Downing Jr., Fayetteville NC, and one brother-in-law, Jake Davis, Bamberg SC. Her memory also lives in her nieces and nephews, Felicia(Harry) Dowling Callendar, Joe Dowling Jr., Corey(Ludie)Laboard, Nicole Richburg, Jamie(Alicia)Downing, Jermaine(Wanda)Downing, Taqulla Downing, Nicole Entzminger, Jamell Kirkland, Chantay Kirkland, Antonio Brown, Latroy Brown, Tiara Downing, and Jake Davis Jr. A close cousin, Jacqueline Downing Samuel and Paul Milton affectionately known as a son.
