Funeral services for the late Ms. Caretha Patterson will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Lees, South Carolina. Interment services will follow immediately in the church cemetery. Rev. Freddie L. Wright is officiating. Visitation for the public will be held on Monday from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm at the funeral home with a wake scheduled from 7:00- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Ms. Caretha Patterson was born on February 3, 1954 in Barnwell County to the late Pernell Patterson and Retha Owens Patterson. The Lord needed a precious flower and called Caretha home on March 6, 2014 at Georgia Regents Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia. At an early age, Caretha joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She attended Macedonia Elementary School and later moved to Hempstead, New York where she graduated from Hemptead High School. She then furthered her education by attending Nassau Community College where she studied nursing. Caretha worked at New York Nex Telephone Company form many years until retirement. Caretha later moved back to South Carolina where she reunited back with her roots and rejoined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Voices of Zion musical choir and served faithfully until her health declined. Caretha's favorite past time was cross word puzzles and her favorite color was purple. Preceding her in death are her parents, Pernell Patterson and Retha Patterson and a sister, Gloria Rhodes. Cherishing her loving memories are a nephew who was like a son, Ronald Cunningham, Jr.of Hempstead, NY; one uncle, Willie J. Owens of Amityville, NY; one aunt, Katherine Owens of Atlanta, GA; loving cousins who were like sisters, Margaret (Sammie) Savage and Elois Kirkland both of Blackville, SC; one Godson, Derrick Simpson of Freeport, NY; one Goddaughter, Larinda Simmons of Columbia, SC; a special cousin, Shirley Young; special friends, Jannet Celdstine, Deloris Wilson and Bertha Hart; and a host of other relatives and friends.
