Funeral services for the late Carolyn Hicks will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville, SC.  Interment services will follow immediately at Blackville Community Cemetery, Blackville, SC.  Viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon- 6:00 pm at Macedonia Baptist Church.


Carolyn Deloris Hicks passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018. She was born to the late Zelma Hicks Ephriam on November 20, 1951 and reared in the loving home of the late Lovant and Jaime Hicks.

Carolyn was a member of Macedonia High School graduating class of 1970. Her passion for advancement and learning resulted in her being a proud member of Denmark- Technical College class of 2004 with an associate degree in applied science in human services. She was employed with Ducane Heating Company in Blackville, SC and later with Wal-Mart Corporations in Barnwell, SC.

Carolyn attended and served as a member of Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age and remained there until her passing. Her heart for faithfully praising and worshiping God with her church family was evident by her many years of fellowship carrying on the legacy of the Hicks family. She was a member of many auxiliaries and ministries. She served with the Macedonia Baptist Church Pulpit Aide Ministry, Church Aid Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Kitchen Ministry, Sunday School Ministry, Food Bank Ministry and Hospitality Ministry. She was also a member of the Sanctuary Choir for many years. She served in her community with the same devotion as a member of the Blackville Community Choir and Ladies of Excellence Club.

Family and friends were Carolyn's passion and delight. She had a spirit filled with care, compassion and most of all love for others. Preceding her in death is her daughter, Lisa Shawntae Hicks who carried an identical spirit to her mother in life and her brother Izell Ephriam Jr.

Entrusted with cherished memories are her sons and daughters- in- law, Jeffery(Gloria) Hicks, Kirk (Lashanda) Hicks Sr; her grandchildren, Coby Hicks, Madison Hicks, Kirk Hicks Jr.; sisters, Marilyn C. Ephriam and Constance Ephriam, brothers, John M. Ephriam and Joseph Ephriam; nieces, Melody L. Jenkins and Caitlin L. Minus; nephews, Terrance Jenkins and Jhajuan D. Ephriam; aunts, Mary (George) H. Perry, Laura Hicks, Lala Hicks and Gloria Hicks; uncles, Willie Hicks and George Perry; goddaughters, Krystal N. Odom and Kaliegh and Kenadi Harris.
