John Stephens **Mr. Greene will be placed in the sanctuary of the church one hour before the service. Deacon Nathaniel Lucius Greene was born to the late Queen Esther Caldwell Greene and Rev. Blease McKinley Greene on December 7, 1948 in Calhoun County, SC. Nathaniel was a lover of Christ, recognized the dire need to accept Christ in his life and did so at an early age. After witnessing the call of his father's life, he joined New First Mount Beulah Baptist Church located in Swansea, SC under the leadership of his father. He served diligently in various capacities as a trustee, Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, male chorus, member of the senior choir and chairman of the Deacon Board. He also served as a General Superintendent of the St. Matthews Baptist Sunday School Convention for a number of years. He adored that awesome position and the responsibility that it provided. He cherished the preparation of writing soul stirring messages for "Deacon's-Speak" out at the designated churches. He wanted to deliver the message exactly the way it was given to him by God. He was comforted in knowing that God was his all-in-all. He reverenced God as his father, Jesus as his big brother and the Holy Spirit as his comforter and keeper. Nathaniel felt secure in fulfilling all of the roles that God assigned to him. Nathaniel received his education from Orangeburg County School District 5. He was a graduate of Wilkinson High School Class of 1968. He continued his education and received his B.S. degree from South Carolina State University and also graduated from Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College as a recipient of a Business/ Accounting degree. He served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He also retired from the National Guard in Orangeburg, SC. His love for his country afforded him the opportunity to serve his community in the State Guard and Homeland Security. Nathaniel's tenacious spirit lead him to own and operate his own business for over thirty years. As many of you know, he passionately spoke with a soft voice, encouraging everyone to seek God first, be obedient and get a quality education. He was a supportive husband that enjoyed traveling with his family especially vacationing with the grandchildren. He cared for everyone that crossed his path. Nathaniel listened and gave sound advice. He was an opportunist that cultivated the minds of many. Nathaniel is survived by his loving and caring wife, Mrs. Loretta Dash- Greene; four treasured children, Roderick (Darlette) Pam, Dr. Stacy (Molvie) Greene; Allarick Greene, Deidre (Ivan) Lozada; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Lila Bradford, Zina Hampton Englum Greene and Lena (Beryl) Brown; three brothers, Kaponden (Claudia) Greene, Rev. Isaac (Carolyn) Greene and Samuel (Frances) Greene and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Thursday from 11:00 am- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
