Mr. Donald D. Jarvis, Sr., passed into eternal rest on September 14, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Jarvis was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on April 1, 1937, to the late Ulysses S. Jarvis, Sr. and the late Anna Gadsden Jarvis.

He graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1957. Donald graduated from South Carolina State University, attaining a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Education and a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. At an early age, he became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, where he served as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, United Methodist Men, the Men's Chorus and the Voices of Faith. Donald began his career journey as a Vocational Counselor with South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation, earning statewide recognition for his work. He also enjoyed a rewarding career as an educator in the Orangeburg County School District, serving as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Belleville Middle School (Now Robert E. Howard Middle), Assistant Principal at Howard Middle School, and Orangeburg Technology Center (COVEC) both as a guidance counselor and as an administrator.

Donald was active throughout his life, participating in the choir, track and field and marching band, serving as a drum major both at Wilkinson High School and South Carolina State College. He was an avid vocalist and pianist. Donald was a proud member of the renowned Jarvis Brothers Quintet, singing tenor with his brothers. He received numerous accolades both in his profession as an educator and during his time performing with the Jarvis Brothers Quintet. Donald was a graphic designer, residential draftsman and artist. He designed architectural plans in Orangeburg and surrounding areas. Some of  his notable designs includes the entrance to Claflin University and graphic design work for South Carolina State College's Athletic Department. He leaves a legacy of artwork that he created during his life.

Donald loved his community and fellowshipping with friends. He was an avid football enthusiast and golfer. He would spend many Fridays playing cards with his beloved "Four Aces" card club. He was an ardent supporter of South Carolina State University, particularly its Football Program and Marching 101 Band. He was a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., serving as basileus of Epsilon Omega Chapter from 1998-2000. Most importantly, Donald loved mentoring and coaching little league football.  He loved meeting new people; often entertaining them with his musical prowess, wit and sense of humor.

He was united in matrimony to his beloved wife, Mrs. Sadie Davis Jarvis on December 21, 1968. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Reginald A. Jarvis, Sr.

To cherish his memories, Donald leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Sadie; four beloved sons, Cornell S. Jarvis (Toni), of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Robert W. Jarvis (Gloria), of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Donald D. Jarvis, Jr. (Beryl), of Stonecrest, Georgia and Steven C. Jarvis (Titoriya), of Orangeburg, South Carolina; seven loving grandchildren; Melissa Thurman of Washington, DC, Icius Jarvis of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Sean Jarvis of Las Vegas, Nevada, Donovan Jarvis of Stonecrest, Georgia, Aaron Jarvis of Atlanta, Georgia, Steven Jarvis, II and Skylar Jarvis of Orangeburg, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ulysses S. Jarvis, Jr. (Dorothy), Anthony L. Jarvis and Rogers G. Jarvis (Albertha) and one sister, Priscilla L. Jarvis, all of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a beloved sister in-law, Louise Simpson of Cope, South Carolina and three special god-children, Jason Winningham, Mark McClain and Akilah Hugine Elmore and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Omega Services will be conducted by members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 6:30 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Orangeburg, SC.

Family and friends may visit the residence at 2841 Belleville Road from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Sadie Jarvis, 2841 Belleville Rd, Orangeburg, South Carolina 29115. Make checks payable to Trinity United Methodist Church Restoration Project in loving memory of Donald D. Jarvis, Sr.
