Ms. Dora Mae Woods Ashley was the daughter of Sammie Woods Sr. and Ruth Lee Green Woods. She was born on May 18,1947 and received her wings on January 4, 2024 at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

Dora joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She attended regularly and was a faithful member of the Usher Board and sang in the Junior Choir.

She received her formal education from Macedonia High School in Blackville, SC. Dora enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren and cooking. One of her favorite meals to cook was chicken, rice and gravy. She fed everyone that entered her door and you were always welcomed to sit her table. Dora was united in holy matrimony to Thomas Ashley on June 28, 1991. Thomas preceded her in death. Dora was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Armstrong Ross and her sister, Carrie Lee Woods.

Dora leaves to honor and cherish her memory her three sons: James (Debra) Armstrong Jr. of North Augusta SC, Barry (Judy) Armstrong and Terry Brown of Blackville SC; one step-daughter, Ferlecia (John) Cuthbertson of Williston SC; one son-in-law, Horace Ross of Bamberg, SC; four sisters, Catherine W. McCreary, Shirley (Robert) W. Johnson, Mary Felder and Darlene Woods of Blackville, SC; four brothers, Sammie (Eartha) Woods Jr of Denmark SC, Arthur Woods of Augusta, GA, James Woods of Blackville, SC and Ronnie Woods of Barnwell, SC; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a devoted granddaughter and caregiver, Ebony Armstrong of Aiken, SC; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Ryans of Williston, SC and Barbara Friday of Atlanta, GA; two aunts, Elizabeth Woods Johnson of Blackville, SC and Edna Mae Green of Aiken, SC and a host of sorrowful nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
