Dorothy "Rose" Davis-Rivers was born on April 26, 1931 in
Elloree, South Carolina to the late James Smith and Anna V.
Davis. She departed this life on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at
Montefiore-Einstein Medical Center in Bronx, New York.

Dorothy was raised by her late aunt, Bertha Davis-Murray.
She received her formal education at Goodbar School in
Elloree, SC. At an early age in life, she joined Granger Baptist
Church in which she served in various capacities. On October
17, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to the late John S.
Rivers who preceded her in death. From this union was six
children.
After marriage and moving from Elloree, SC to
Orangeburg, SC, Dorothy and John joined Old Mount Zion
Baptist Church. Dorothy was very faithful and served on
numerous committees and she served as a deaconess. Her
most notable role at Old Mount Zion was serving as the
remarkable choir director for the children's choir, which she
loved.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was employed with
Orangeburg County School District for several years before
retiring. She also served her community by baking delicious
treats and feeding anyone who needed to eat. Through this
employment and community service, she touched so many
lives.

During her life, Dorothy was the recipient of various
awards and recognition. In 2015, she was awarded the
Women's Ministry award from Old Mount Zion Baptist Church.
In 2019, she also received the national Grandparent Around the
World award.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memories: six
children, Rose Gamble and James Rivers (Bronx, NY), Reverend
Louis Rivers (St. Matthews, SC), Mary Everett and Salley Rivers
(Orangeburg, SC), and John (Cynthia) Rivers (Winnsboro, SC);
other children, Shirley Thomas (Blythewood, SC), Gloria Davis
(Bronx, NY), Maggalene Johnson (Orangeburg, SC), Maggie Mae
Gardner (Alabama); ten siblings, Jerimiah Fogle, Frank Fogle,
Blondel Fogle, Jessie Mae Watson, Eartha Barrow, Gloria
Wiliams (Columbia, SC), Elease Smith (Virginia), Queenie
Williams, Betty Glenn, and Donna Adams (New York), and a
host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces,
nephews, and other living relatives.
