Ms. Dorothy Grimes, formerly of Bamberg, South Carolina, departed this earthly life on October 17, 2023 after an extended illness.

Dorothy was born on September 29, 1946, in Bamberg, South Carolina, the daughter of Cleveland Kirkland and Rosella Lawton.  At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and became a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Bamberg, South Carolina.  She remained a faithful member until her health failed. She served on several committees within the church but found joy in being a door keeper in the house of the Lord.

Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County.  She was a 1965 graduate of Richard Carroll. Dorothy worked for manufacturing companies as a machinist throughout her career. She retired from Delavan/BF Goodrich Technologies in 2012.

Dorothy was previously married to Mr. Kenloyd Grimes and to this union was born one daughter, Rosella Grimes.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents (Cleveland and Rosella Kirkland) and siblings, Abraham Kirkland, Wilhemena Kirkland, Celie Kirkland Smith, Clary Kirkland, Hildagard Kirkland Bamberg, James Kirkland, Clinton Kirkland and Grace Kirkland Ford.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Rosella Nimmons Grimes of Woodbridge, Virginia; two grandsons, Sean O'Dell Xavier Nimmons (Kashonna) of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Henry Clay Omar Boyd, II of Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Leona Alana Nicole Darden, of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandsons, Jace Nimmons and Bryce Nimmons of Woodbridge, Virginia; one sister, Helen Kirkland Heyward (Ronald) of Merritt Island, Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
