Information Mr. Eddie Mayes, Sr. was born on May 1, 1938 in Barnwell County, South Carolina to the late Harold (Zelma) Mayes. The final chapter of his life ended on May 28, 2011. At an early age, Eddie was baptized at Frost Branch Baptist Church in Elko, South Carolina. He loved his church family and was dedicated in whatever services he could render. He was educated in Williston-Elko Public School System. Eddie was united in holy matrimony to the late Ella Mae Walker Mayes. He was a loving husband and displayed fatherly love and the essence of integrity and responsibility. He was known for his love to his family and friends. Eddie is preceded in death by one son, Cleve Mayes, a daughter, Roberta (Sis) Walker Brown, a sister, Willie Dell Mayes, brothers, Henry Mayes, George Mayes, Isaac Mayes, and a half sister, Kat Coleman. Cherishing Eddies precious memories are: three sons, Eddie (Annie) Mayes of Denmark, SC, Harry (Ruth Mae) Mayes of Barnwell, SC and Willie Mayes of Ft. Pierce, FL; two daughters, Barbara (Abadine) Mayes of Blackville, SC and Mildred Madelene Mayes of Aiken, SC; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great -grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Helen) Mayes, Jr. and Nathaniel Mayes both of Blackville, SC; one sister, Madelle Glover of Blackville, SC; a son-in-law, Johnny Brown, Sr. of Blackville, SC; sisters-in-law, Francine Mayes of Denmark, SC, Catherine Walker and Dorothy Mayes both of Blackville, SC; Sandra Mayes of Salisbury, NC, Beatrice Walker of Springfield, SC, Josephine Health and Rosa Dowling both of Ft. Pierce, FL; two special nephews, MacArthur (Lois) Glover of Denmark, SC and Willie (Linda) Haynes of Blackville, SC and a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
