Obituary

Edna Jane Campbell, was born on the tenth day of the tenth month in the year 1928. Married twice as Shadrach then Watson, she was "Miss Tit" to her siblings, "Mum", "Mummy" to her children, "Nana" to her grandchildren, and just all round wonderful to anyone who knew her.

She had a hard childhood growing up in pre-war Jamaica, doing whatever she could to make ends meet, as she would find herself caring for others with little or no money, including her own mother and her first 2 children.

When the chance came for her to leave Jamaica and go to England she jumped at it, showing the spirit, courage and determination that would carry her through her life.

She made a home there. She had children there. She worked. So much so that she bought not one but two houses, with little formal education. She may not have had "book smarts" but she had life skills to surpass any.

Edna's real life began on April 16, 1969, the night she was saved. She found God and she welcomed him in. From that moment on, she found a very special, personal relationship with the Almighty, that gave her strength and hope like nothing else ever could. Her Christianity became her defining trait, her light which she spread to all who came her way.

Some years later she took the chance to come to the United States, to be nearer her eldest daughters and their children, and even then, she worked, again caring for others. Here in the States she found new friends, yet still managed to maintain most of her old relationships. When she finally stopped working all those friends kept her happy as they would contact her, allowing her to continue, and for them to continue sharing their lives.

Although not as agile as in her youth, unbeknownst to many, (especially him) she still found time to have a loving relationship with Trevor Noah, a South African TV satirist. Better known as the "teddy bear", Amani gave her for Christmas. Her humor knew no bounds as she would share her and Trevor's exploits with us on a daily basis.  "Where's Trevor?" "Oh he went to the store to get us dinner" she would reply promptly.

Edna Jane loved God and she loved her children with passion. And they loved her passionately back.

Edna Jane passed over on the 16th day of June 2018, in her 90th year when we know she was welcomed into heaven by God.

She survived her eldest daughter, Valerie McKenley but leaves behind Beverley Clarita Harvey, Shad (Bertram) Shadrach, Jacqueline Ione Shadrach, Charon Georgette and Georgette Eley and through them three more generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Edna Jane had a brilliance and lightness seldom seen. She used humour to get through any situation right up until the end, a blessing she has passed on to all her progeny.

The world has lost something shiny and bright, but there's still enough of her light left for us to build on that.
