Edythe Delores Boyer Jones passed from earthly labor to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Edythe was the eighth child and third daughter born to Reverend Climmie L. Boyer and Missionary Ethel M. Boyer in Winter Park, Florida .

A bright and enthusiastic child, Edythe attended Hannibal Square Elementary and graduated from Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee in 1967. Shortly thereafter, Edythe earned the degree of Master of Science from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama. She received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Botany from Lehman College, New York.

In 1969, Edythe and Everlee Jones, Jr. were married in Winter Park, Florida and were a happy, active couple until Everlee's death in 1992. In 1972, they welcomed Conchita LuSalyer Woodruff as their godchild.

Dr. Jones was employed as a teacher at Phyllis Wheatley High School, Apopka, Florida early on and then as a Professor of Biology at Talladega College,Talladega, Alabama. For more than twenty years, Dr. Jones was known as a conscientious and exacting professor in the Biology department at Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was an ardent supporter of her students and helped many to go on to matriculate in medical school, dental school, and other professional postgraduate studies.

Edythe Boyer Jones lived an exciting and vibrant life. She was an active, long time member of Bowman Temple COGIC, Bowman, South Carolina, and Field Sunday School Representative for the State of South Carolina. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and she cherished her participation in the annual Orangeburg community choir presentation of Handel's Messiah.

Included in those who will miss her smiling face and gentle spirit are her sister, Dr. Minnie Boyer Woodruff, Orlando; sister-in-law, Missionary Edna M. Boyer, Manhattan, Kansas; sister-in-law, Dr. Patricia Boyer, Huntsville, Alabama; nephews, Mr. William Boyer, Eatonville and  Mr. Alan Boyer, Duluth, Georgia, Mr. Erik Boyer, Sr., Eatonville, Florida (Shannon), Mr. Kevin Boyer, Huntsville, Alabama; nieces, Dr. Lori Boyer, Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Tamia Boyer, Laurel, Maryland, Dr. Edythe Woodruff Stewart, Selma, California (Robert), Ms. Kelli Boyer, Alexandria, Virginia; Niece and Goddaughter Dr. Conchita Woodruff-Johnson, Coweta, Oklahoma (Royce)and an  "Adopted" son, Mr. Rahat Khan, Columbia, South Carolina (Aysha.

Edythe also leaves to grieve many other family members and dear friends.
