Mrs. Emily James was born June 24, 1915 in Creston, South Carolina to Emily Glover and Benjamin Bonaparte.

Sister James "as she was affectionately called, then later Mother James", was blessed to bear five children of her own, with her husband the late Backus James.  Preceding her in death are five children, Robert, Joseph, Artemus, Emily and Estelle.

In 1951, Mother James moved to Edisto Drive on Stroman Line, where she became a pillar in the community. As an active member of the "Holiness Church" under the late Apostle Abraham B. Stroman, she was a woman of prayer, faith, love and was always willing to help somebody. The community would always be greeted with a warm smile and sweet words of wisdom as they chatted with her sitting on her front porch.

Mother James leaves to cherish her memories one son, Frederick James; two grandsons, Frederick (Doris) James of Greenville, SC and Don James  of Orangeburg, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Church Family, the entire community of Edisto Drive, Concerned Citizens of Edisto Drive, friends and well-wishers of Orangeburg County.

Heartfelt thanks of appreciation are extended to all who have contributed towards the funeral services for Mrs. James. We are forever grateful to each of you for your acts of kindness.

Viewing for the public will be held on Friday from 12:00- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
