Ernestine Louise (Freeman) Perdue, (affectionately known as Ern or Stein) 95 years

old, transitioned peacefully to eternal rest on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her

residence in Denmark, SC. The second oldest of six children, Ernestine was born

October 11, 1930 to the late Willie (Jasper) Freeman and Addie Mae (Kennedy)

Freeman Thompson in Augusta, GA.

At an early age, she moved to Bamberg, SC and received her education in the

Bamberg County Public Schools. During her youth she attended Springtown Baptist

Church where she was actively involved in Sunday School and the choir.

In 1947, Ernestine moved North and lived in the states of New York and Connecticut,

where she was gainfully employed and in 1953 she married the late Leonard

Perdue.

After many years of residing in Connecticut, Ernestine made a decision to settle for a

slower pace of living and relocated to Denmark, SC in 1971, where she was

employed at Denmark Technical College. She enrolled and graduated from the

Secretarial Science program. After providing 20 years of service, Ernestine retired in

1991 from Denmark Technical College.

Ernestine was not one for sitting idle. Although retired secularly, she became

actively involved and was a diligent worker in kingdom building in the Church of God

in Christ, as she was a member at Victory Temple in Denmark, Holy Temple in

Bamberg, and St. Phillip in Govan. Mother Perdue loved the Lord and one of her

favorite scriptures is Psalm 91. During her church affiliations she was a licensed

Missionary and served in many capacities, namely as Sunday School Teacher,

Prayer and Bible Band Teacher, Church Secretary, Sang in Choir, Kitchen Ministry

and as a willing worker in other capacities where needed.

Mother Perdue loved her family and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. Although

she didn’t have a high tolerance for nonsense, she drowned you with love when she

served her baked sweet potato and coconut pies.

Cherishing her loving memories and legacy are her two children: Jeffrey

(Yvonne/Tina) Perdue and Janet Dyches of Denmark; 4 grands, 16 great grands, 1

great, great grand, 4 bonus grands, 20 bonus great grands; 1 sister: Addie Gant of

Bridgeport, CT; 1 sister-in-law: Jessie Freeman of Augusta, GA; and a host of

nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Mother Perdue was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Perdue; 4 sisters: Mary

Alice Stroman of Denmark, SC, Gladys E. Preston of Orangeburg, SC, Susan A.

Williams of Morganton, NC; 2 brothers: Willie Freeman of Augusta, GA and Willie J.

Thompson of Denmark, SC; 1 sis-in-law, Elizabeth Thompson of Raleigh, NC.
