Funeral services for the late Mrs. Fannie Mae Kiett will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at Dash's Funeral Home Chapel, Orangeburg.  Viewing for the public will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am- 7:00 pm.  The family will greet friends between the hours of 5:00- 7:00 at the funeral home on Saturday.



On the 16th of February 1938 Daniel Dash and Essie Mae Dash were blessed with their first child, Fannie Mae Dash. While a quiet child, Fannie Mae, who was affectionately known as "Gal" to her family, grew to be a classy, quiet yet spunky, God-fearing woman, who enjoyed the simpler things in life. She took pride in hard work, was devoted to her family, and cultivated a strong relationship with the Lord.

In 1957, Fannie married Earnest Keitt, becoming Fannie Mae Keitt. Four children came of this union, Jeffery, Cheryl, Michael, and Victor. While the union did not last, the family's bond and love is still felt today and will live on through the hearts of her children and their families. She raised four children and had a vital role in helping to raise her grandchildren, earning the respected title of "Granny", "Ga-ga" and "Mima". She also was a beloved great-grandmother, lovingly referred to by her great grandson as "Granny Fannie".

Fannie, while the matriarch of the family, was a career woman long before the title was crafted and the society expectant of it. Fannie Mae was determined to contribute to the economic and spiritual community she resided in. She would rush home from school to work the registers at the fairgrounds where her mother also worked. She worked at several other companies before helping to open Bi-Lo in Orangeburg and worked there for over 35 years.

More importantly, Fannie Mae served the Lord faithfully at Macedonia Baptist Church since childhood. Members of the congregation noted her as being loyal, dedicated, determined and caring. Those who knew her well often remember hearing her hum and then soulfully sing "Precious Lord."

Fannie Mae will be remembered for her quiet intensity and humor, her unexpected feistiness, her inspirational wisdom, and soulful singing voice. Never one to back down or give in she also personified the ideal of the southern classy woman. Her devotion to God, determination and loving nature are her greatest legacies that her children inherited and work to instill, not only in themselves but their children as well. This ensures her spirit is forever in their hearts and out in the world.

Fannie is survived by her four children, one son-in-law, four grand-children, and a great grand-son.
