Funeral services for Mrs. Girthel Banks will be held at  11am on Monday June 5, 2017 at Thankful Baptists Church Bamberg, South Carolina. Interment services will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Sunday June 4,2017 from 12noon until 8pm.

Mrs. Girthel Grimes Banks, daughter of the late Alan Grimes and Rubelle Jennings McMichael, was born on May 5, 1924 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina and entered into eternal rest on May 31, 2017 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Girthel was a faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, president of the Gospel Choir, usher and member of the Senior Missionary Society. She belonged to CBAA #46 and was a member of Oak Grove Chapter #19 O.E.S.

Girthel was employed as a dietary aid/cook at Bamberg County Memorial Hospital and after retiring, she was a volunteer at the Office on Aging for several years.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Dea. James Banks, Jr; a son, Clary Banks, Jr.; mother, Rubelle McMichael; father, Alan Grimes; brother, James Williams and a sister, Gladys Williams.

She leaves to cherish fond memories—Arthur L. Banks (Judy), Gerlie Walker (David), Ada M. Legree, Betty A. Bamberg, Janie L. Banks and Shirley Banks all of Bamberg, SC, Patricia Myers (Herbert), James B. Banks (Linda) and Sandra E. McMichael all of Orangeburg, SC; 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; an aunt, Mrs. Margaret Banks, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
