Dr. Harriette McClary Gregg, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and educator passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at MUSC Hospital in Orangeburg South Carolina.

Harriette was born on July 8, 1946, in Kingstree, South Carolina.  She was the youngest child of Rev. Dr. W.D.C. and Marguerite C. McClary.  Harriette's parents instilled in her a love of education, and learning has always been important to her.  She graduated from Johnakin High School in Marion, South Carolina, earned her Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the Hampton Institute (University) in Hampton, Virginia. While at Hampton, Harriette was a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Harriett received her Master's Degree from Michigan State University and, after lots of hard work, she earned an Ed.D in Speech and Language Pathology from Columbia University Teachers College in New York City.

Harriette's education and expertise in Speech and Language Pathology led her to an outstanding twenty-year career at Harlem Hospital in New York City.

She discovered her other passion, which was instructing students and accepted a position at South Carolina State University in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, where she served as chairperson for six years and clinic director until her retirement in 2014. Dr. Gregg earned the rank of associate professor with tenure at South Carolina State University until her retirement in 2014. She was awarded the Professor Emerita status in 2022.

Throughout her career, Dr. Harriette Gregg received several awards and honors from national and state organizations. In 2014, she received the Eugene Wiggins Award alongside her dear friend and colleague Dr. Gwen Wilson from the National Black Association of Speech-Language and Hearing.

Harriette was a faithful member of Williams Chapel A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Steward board, sang in the Mass Choir and served as a dedicated chairperson of several successful Women's Day Celebrations.  Harriette was instrumental in the organization and innovative ideas that lead the implementation of Williams Chapel's Small Steps Big Strides Day Care Center. She was honored as mother of the year in May of 2024.

Harriette met and married the love of her life, Robert Gregg. Harriette and Robert were parents to son, Kurtis Chappelle Gregg.

Harriette enjoyed reading, solving word search puzzles and traveling to Educational Conferences with her longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Gwen Wilson.

Harriette believed in the power of prayer and had faith and trust in God and HIS Son, Jesus Christ.

Harriette was preceded in death by her dear and devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Robert Jerome Gregg; and parents, Dr. W.D.C and Marguerite C. McClary.

Harriette leaves a legacy of love, wisdom and care to her loved ones: son, Kurtis Chappell Gregg of Orangeburg, SC; step-daughter, Deborah Lynn Gregg of New Britian, CT; sister, Ruth N. Boone of Flint, MI; brother, Charles McClary of Columbia, SC; niece, Amye (Dr. Ronald) Warren of Flint, MI; nephew, Richard (Dr. Cree) of Flint, MI.; step-grandchildren, Jenaya and A'dryan of New Britain, CT; step-great-grandson, Ryshaun of New Britain, CT;  great-nephew, Isaiah, of Dallas, TX and great-nieces, Leah and Ahriah of Flint, MI; special life-long sister-friend, Dr. Gwen Wilson; friends, Elijah and Janine, Raashid Hinton;  Rev. and Mrs. Rivers and the Williams Chapel Church Family; the staff and students of South Carolina State and all the friends who loved, encouraged and supported Harriette over the years.
