Henry Fulton "RED" Johnson, age 76, of Orangeburg, South Carolina, entered eternal rest at the Regional Medical Center, on the evening of Sunday, April 2, 2017.  Henry was born on September 28, 1940 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late Benjamin and Sarah Lenora Johnson.  As a child, Henry was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he remained to worship, until his health started to decline.  During his early childhood years, Henry attended Orangeburg City Public Schools and graduated in 1959 from Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  He then continued to further his education by enrolling in Denmark Technical College (formerly Denmark Area Trade School) in Denmark, South Carolina, where he satisfactorily completed the course of study and graduated on May 26, 1961 with a Diploma in Brick Masonry (Construction).

Upon graduation, Henry enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1963, where he patriotically served his country.  While enlisted in the military, Henry attended the US Army Medical School at Fort Sam     Houston in San Antonio, Texas and completed major course work in Medical Procedures in March 1964.  He also earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Marksman Badge (Rifle). After actively serving for two years, in October 1965, he was honorably discharged.  This Army Veteran began to utilize his area trade of study in Brick Masonry.  During this time, he  assisted with the building construction of several buildings and businesses throughout Orangeburg and many of the surrounding areas.  Henry was a very diligent and hardworking man that was truly dedicated to the profession for over 45 years, in which he later retired.

During the late seventy's, while working onsite at Williams Memorial Elementary School in St. George, South Carolina, he met Annie Rhett-Johnson.  The two were married in 1982 and this union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kimberly and Ebony Johnson.  He was a great and loving father that truly enjoyed spending precious time with his daughters and his grandson, as well as his family and friends.  In his leisure time, Henry enjoyed fishing, reading and creating gourmet dishes.  Henry was a socially active man who was deeply involved in his community.  He was commonly referred to as the "Mayor of Clark Street" as he took pride in making sure that the needs of others were met in his neighborhood.  This included, but was not limited to his passion of mowing and maintaining the upkeep of various lawns, monitoring the houses and vehicles of neighbors, and ensuring that the amount of liter in the neighborhood was minimized each morning during his daily walks.

He is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Johnson and his mother Sarah Lenora Fulton Johnson.   He is survived by his beloved daughters, Kimberly Johnson of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Ebony Johnson of St. George, South Carolina and their mother, Annie Rhett-Johnson, of Reevesville, South Carolina; one grandson, McCarthy Corley, Jr. of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two sisters, Elsa Marie Adams of Spring Hill, Florida and Amy Rowena Alexander (Reverend John M. Alexander) of Silver Spring, Maryland; two brothers, Richard Johnson of Sacramento, California and Earl L. Johnson of Palm Harbor, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends that will forever cherish his memories and the smiles he bought upon their faces.  Henry will always be remembered as a devoted and kindhearted individual that was very passionate about life and serving others.
