Funeral services for the late Mother Hermean H. Graham will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 11:00 am at Union Baptist Church, Bamberg, SC.  Interment services will be held immediately following the services, in the church cemetery. Viewing for the public will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial services will be conducted by members of The Order of Eastern Star promptly at 6:00 pm.

Mother Hermean Halyard Graham , daughter of the late Mr. Malcolm Halyard and Mrs. Ida Grimes Halyard, quietly departed this life on Friday, April 26, 2019. She was born on July 22, 1916 in the Clear Pond Community of Bamberg County in South Carolina. She was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County. At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Union Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member. At Union Baptist, she served faithfully as the Mother of the Church, member of the Missionary Society, Usher Board, Sunday School, Pastor's Aide, Noon Day Prayer Circle and Deaconess Ministry. She was also an active member of the Mt. Calvary Union, Mount Calvary Convention and Mount Calvary Association.

She was united in holy matrimony to Monnie Graham, Sr. in August of 1937. This union was blessed with seven children. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage prior to the death of Monnie, Sr.  on January 5, 1995.

Mother Hermean Graham was an active member of the Oak Grove Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars #19 for over 65 years, founder of the Bamberg Nursing Home Quilting Club, and a member of the Family and Community Leaders (FCL). After working on the farm and being the best wife and mother she could be, she became gainfully employed with Bamberg County School District One. She retired from the school district with 19 years of experience as a food service technician and manager.

As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her six children: Maebelle G. (Jerome) Ballard of Lake City, SC; Blanche G. Logan of Brooklyn, NY; Vivian G.  (Douglas) Stephens of Ruffin, SC; Tinnie G. (Rev. Dr. Calvin O.) Adams of Atlanta, GA; Monnie, Jr. (Linda) Graham of Cordova, SC; and Roy (Dr. Cynthia) Graham of Sumter SC; two sister-in-laws, Flossie G. Grundy of Irmo, SC and Bessie Halyard of St. Auburn, NY; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her memories will also be cherished by the Union Baptist Church family, other relatives and close friends.

Mother Hermean Graham was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Ida Halyard; husband, Monnie Graham, Sr.; daughter, Ida Graham Dowling; grandson, Alphonso Dowling; great grandson, Alonzo Dowling; six siblings, Malcolm Halyard, Jack Halyard, Gene Halyard, Blondell H. Baker, Carmena H. Mitchell and Allean H. Jones; and two sons-in-law, Calvin Logan and John Dowling.
