On Monday, February 25, 2014 Ida put down her earthly crown, and picked up her crown of glory, and peacefully entered into eternal rest, while being cared for at Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC. Ida Dowling, was born June 25, 1938, the eldest child of Mother Hermean Graham, and the late Monnie Graham, Sr. Ida was educated in the Bamberg County Public School, and would later graduate from Richard Carroll High School, Class of 1957. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In 1957 she moved to Brooklyn, New York with her late husband John Dowling. In 2000 she retired from 28 years of service at New York Presbyterian Hospital- Cornell Medical Center; at which time she and her husband returned to Bamberg, South Carolina to enjoy retirement. As a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, she served on the Usher Board, and Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Bamberg County Family and Community Leaders (FCL). Preceding her in death was her husband, John Dowling, Sr. of 56 years of marriage, one child Alphonso Dowling, grandson Alonzo Dowling, son-in-law James Gadson, and brother-in-law Calvin Logan. Ida leaves to cherish a host of loving and wonderful memories - children: John C. Dowling, Jr. (Angela Mason) of Fairfax, VA, Minister Debra Daniels (Reggie) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Cynthia Gadson of Fallschurch, VA; daughter-in-law Carolyn; (11) grandchildren, (10) great grandchildren; (4) sisters: Maebelle (Jerome), Blanche, Vivian (Douglas), and Tinnie (Rev. Calvin); brothers: Deacon Monnie, Jr. (Linda), and Roy (Cynthia) and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
