Mr. James Leroy Harrison was born in Springfield, South Carolina to the late Clarence Harrison and Ester Dowling on March 23, 1935.  The majority of his life was spent growing up and working as a farmer in the small town of Blackville, South Carolina.  Leroy passed on July 8, 2024 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Orangeburg, South Carolina with his family by his side.

Leroy was a hard worker and spent very little time sitting idle.  He was constantly on the go and doing things around the house. As a traditionalist born in the 1900's, he did not attend a public school like many after him.  However, that did not stop him.  His level of intelligence surpassed most people that he encountered while on this earth.  He developed values of integrity, perseverance and generosity that would define his character.  Leroy had a true love for life.  He thoroughly enjoyed shopping and going places with his sons. When he wasn't being chauffeured around by one of his sons, you would find him riding on his luxury moped.

His love for farming spilled over into his daily life and it became an important hobby for him.  Every year he planted a large garden in his yard filled with collards, tomatoes and corn along with other vegetables.  Leroy also loved his pets.  He raised dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits. On a good day, you may have seen a bob cat in one of his cages.  All stray animals were welcomed at Leroy's house.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ester; a devoted son, Rodney Harrison; loving daughters, Janet Johnson, Arsella Harrison and Ella Harrison-Greggs; his sisters, Anne Lou (Willie Lee), Ester Lou (JD), Carrie Lou (Luther), Queenester (Robert) and Maryann (Harry); his brothers, Clarence (Remell) and Willie (Edith).

Leroy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elizabeth Harrison; three faithful sons, Leon (Jimmie) Harrison of Blackville, SC, Terry Johnson of Denmark, SC and Grady (Faye) Harrison of North Augusta, SC; one adoring daughter, Zelma Mays- Howze of Denmark, SC; his cherished sisters, Frankie (Willie) Holman of Delaware and Rosiner (Richard) Pressley of Delaware; one special sister-in-law, Mary Jane Johnson of Denmark, SC and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
