Funeral services for the late Mr. James J. Washington will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Bamberg, SC. Interment services will follow at Thankful Baptist Church Cemetery, Bamberg, SC. Viewing for the public will be held on Friday from 10:00 am- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. James J. Washington was born on October 29, 1942 in Bamberg, South Carolina to the late Charlie Washington and Eva Goodwin-Washington. He departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, South Carolina. James was educated in the public schools of Bamberg County. He was employed as a landscaper by many of Bamberg County's doctors, lawyers and pastors until his health no longer allowed him to do so. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Brown-Washington; three brothers: Earnest Washington, Robert Washington and Charlie Washington, and a special friend, Ozella McCaskell all of Bamberg, South Carolina. James leaves to cherish his memories - one daughter, Eva Marie (Jimmie) Washington of Bamberg, SC; two sons: James J. (Mary) Washington, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Joe Maynard of Orangeburg, SC; nine grandchildren, two of them raised in the home, Christina and Domonica Washington; two great grands; one sister, Eartha Washington of Olar, SC; a stepson, Michael Robinson of Bamberg, SC; two brothers-in-law: Douglas Washington of Olar, SC and William Brown of Bamberg, SC; five sisters-in-law: Eartha Washington of New York, Virginia Bannister, Bernice Washington, Hattie James-Herbert and Louise B. Williams all of Bamberg, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
