James Arthur Whetstone, Jr. surrendered his revered daily, dutiful roles as husband, dad, granddad, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, neighbor, friend, and businessman with mortal man for an immortal role with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

A TALENTED VISIONARY IS DELIVERED . . .

James Arthur Whetstone's earthly talents began on July 21, 1940 in Atlantic City, NJ.  He was born to the late James Arthur Whetstone, Sr. and Rosa Emma Hailey Whetstone.

James' spiritual life and his relationship with Jesus Christ were of utmost importance to him.  He attended North Orangeburg United Methodist Church in Orangeburg.

A TALENTED VISIONARY MATURES . . .

James was a proud member of Wilkinson High School's graduating class of 1958.  He furthered his post high school education at South Carolina State College (University).

James was an industrious, gentle man, who was ALWAYS on the "lookout" for opportunities that led to a harvest.  He possessed a steadfast wilingness to work during ALL seasons as evidenced in his multiple, as well as successful, occupations during his productive lifetime.  James  was employed as an agent for North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company, and advertising director for the Carolina Publishing Company, and a disc jockey at radio stations in Orangeburg and Columbia prior to his becoming a prominent businessman/entrepreneur.

James took on the thinking of the late black scientist, George Washington Carver, and developed his vision to become a business owner.  He devised an insatiable vision to make his business work.  James  became a forward-thinking business owner.  He made his business, T's & More "live" for a number of decades.  James' unique flair for personalizing T-shirts for customers in Orangeburg and surrounding areas in the county and the state of South Carolina dubbed him the coveted title "T-Shirt Man."

Although James possessed multiple employment opportunities, his responsibilities as husband, dad, and granddad ALWAYS provided the BEST payment for the tasks he performed.  He was an intensely devoted family patriarch. Nothing gave him more joy than time spent with the, imparting wisdom and sharing good times. James could ALWAYS be counted on to greet his compatible wife, Deloris, His dutiful son, Jimmy and his RAYS OF SUNSHINE, his proud, poised and precocious granddaughters, Jessica, Lauren and Kelsey, with a zealous spirit and a willing heart.

Those who preceded James in death include his parents, James, Sr. and Rosa Emma Whetstone.

A TALENTED VISIONARY LIVES ON . . .

James Arthur Whetstone, Jr. was ushered into the glorious presence of the Lord, leaving the following to mourn, yet cherish and continue his talented vision:  his compassionate and devoted wife of 60 years, Deloris Cannon Whetstone; a kind and helpful son, James Arthur Whetstone III (Jimmy) and his attentive and gracious family, Colleen, Jessica, Lauren and Kelsey; two loyal; affectionate sisters, Shirley (Clay) Johnson and Margie (Dwight) McMillan; sister-in-law, Sharon A. (Garland) Cannon; brothers-in-law, Alonzo Cannon, James D. (Naomi) Cannon, Willie E. Cannon and George (Willie Mae) Cannon as well as countless respectful and concerned nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
