Funeral services for the late Mrs. Janie Lou Dix will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Cameron, South Carolina. Interment services will follow immediately at Belleville Memorial Gardens located in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Rev. Archie Fair will officiate. Visitation for the public will be held on Friday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Janie was born on January 7, 1942 to the late Russell Simmons and Girdine Legree. She departed this life on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC, after an extended illness. She was educated in the public schools of Calhoun County. Janie attended St. Peter A.M.E. Church and accepted Christ as her personal savior. She was a member of the WMS Missionary Society. Janie was formerly employed at United Technologies Corporation and later found a new love for domestic work. Janie was united in holy matrimony to Evander Dix. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers. Left to cherish Janie's memories are: one daughter, Myra E. Dix of Columbia, SC; a grandson, Gary Robinson of Lancester, SC; a grandaughter, Sonie Walker of Sumter, SC; her mother, Girdine Legree of Cameron, SC; three sisters, Girtie M. Jackson of Cameron, SC, Hariette Legree of Stanford, Conn., and Margaret L. Smith of Denmark, SC; a special friend, Cornelius Backmon of St. Matthews, SC; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss her dearly.
