Funeral services for the late Mrs. Janie Etheredge will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina. Interment services will follow immediately at Blackville Cemetery, Blackville, South Carolina. Public viewing will be held on Sunday between the hours of 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Janie Etheredge, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bunion Smalls (Eveline), was born on September 11, 1916, in Springfield, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on May 29, 2013, at The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg. Mrs. Etheredge was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Mr. Walter Etheredge. Also preceding her in death are four brothers, Luther, Herbert, Jusstine, Tracy; two sisters, Marjorie and Nettie Moore;and a granddaughter, Shirley Ann Thomas. Mrs. Janie attended the prestigious Emerson School of Blackville and at an early age joined Samaria Baptist Church in Springfield, SC. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church until her death. Known as a wonderful cook and homemaker, Mrs. Janie worked as a domestic worker and welcomed all into her home. In 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Etheredge moved to Brooklyn, New York. Mrs. Janie remained in Brooklyn after the death of her husband in 1974, moving back to her home of Blackville, South Carolina in 1989. She is survived by her devoted, only child, daughter Mrs. Nettie Mae Thomas; loving grandchildren, Sandra (Alfonso) Beach, Walter Thomas both of Blackville, South Carolina, Rodney (Grace) Thomas of Columbia, South Carolina, Anthony Thomas of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Tonya Thomas of Columbia, South Carolina; great grandchildren, Tori (Marcus) Simmons of Columbia, South Carolina, Melody Thomas of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a great-great grandchild who was very special to her heart, Thomas Joseph Simmons of Columbia, South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
