Jessie Collins was born on December 1, 1949 to the late Julius and Addie Collins, Sr. He was the sixth child of seven children. On Thursday, July 18, 2013, Jessie quietly entered into eternal rest after a brief illness. Jessie received his primary and secondary education in the New York County School System. Being raised in a religious environment, Jessie accepted Christ at an early age and became a baptized member of the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church located in Harlem, New York. Jessie was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after thirty years of faithful service. He excelled in martial arts earning the highest honor with a 5th degree black belt. He was an advocate for healthy living by maintaining his body through weight lifting, exercising and track and field and he was a role model to his younger cousins. Jessie is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Julius Collins, Jr, Irene Hubbard and John Baxter. Cherishing Jessie's memories are: two sisters, Annie (William) McNeil of Olean, NY and Eartha Collins of Brooklyn, NY; four brothers, Harold Collins of Lakewood, CA, Phillip (Annie) Collins of Jacksonville, FL, Harry (Daisy) Baxter and Willie L.( Rose Ann) Baxter all of Blackville, SC; one sister-in-law, Margaret Baxter of Blackville, SC; one aunt, Wessie Jones of New York, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
