?Funeral services for the late Jessie High will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Orangeburg,SC with interment services following immediately at the church cemetery. Viewing for the public will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Jessie was born in Orangeburg County to The Late Johnnie and Lila Mae Jamison Sharperson on January 1, 1937. Jessie was one of fifteen children and one of the last three survivors. Angles whispered to her as she was called home to eternal rest on Monday, October 3, 2016 at her residence.
Upon graduating from G. W. Carver School in 1957, she migrated to Elmsford, New York. It was at this time that she met and married the late George Edward High, and this union was blessed with three children.
Jessie joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age and after moving to New York, she attended Bethel Baptist Church in White Plains.
Jessie, along with her family loved fishing, hunting, traveling and camping.
Jessie was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star. As a member of The Eastern Star, she did extensive traveling with the organization.
After retirement, Jessie became a foster parent and welcomed over fifty children into her home giving them the love and care that each deserved. She later relocated back to South Carolina.
She is survived by three children, Lawrence of Santee, South Carolina, Tara (Robert) Smalls, and Deveria Searcey of White Plains, New York; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; one sister, Vera Tate of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and one brother, George Sharperson, Sr. of Orangeburg, South Carolina and a host of relatives and friends.
