Funeral services for Mrs. Gladden will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Union Chapel Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC. Interment services will follow immediately at the church cemetery. Viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. MRS. JOELLA V. KING GLADDEN was born on November 8, 1929 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Phoebe King. Joella attended Zion Public School of Orangeburg County. Joella was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Clifton Gladden, Sr., and to this union ten children were born. She was preceded in death by one son, Dan Gladden. In 1964, after living in Jersey City, New Jersey, she returned to Orangeburg and was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church. There she received Christ as her Lord and Savior and served on the Gospel Choir. Joella leaves to cherish loving memories: Verdonia Gladden of Philadelphia, PA, Joanna (Bernard) Jones, Clifton (Teresa) Gladden, Jr. and Marilyn (Jimmie) Mickens, all of St. Matthews, SC, Beverly (Robert) Carson, David Gladden, Phoebe (Michael) Sistrunk and Almita (Jeffrey) Riley, all of Orangeburg, SC and Marcella (Rev. Warren) Murdock of Kingstree, SC; two sisters, Annie Mae Ross of Jamaica, NY and Aldonia Hailey Sansom of Irmo, SC; one brother, Manassas King of Columbia, SC; three sisters-in-law, Eloise Gladden and Alpine Gladden of Swansea, SC and Annette Gladden of Dixiana, SC; one brother-in-law, Loney Nell Gladden of Swansea, SC; thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Joella will always be remembered by Mrs. Carrie Folk, her beloved roommate at Jolley Acres Health Care Center.
