Dr. Herman Wallace **Mr. Harrison will be placed in the sanctuary of the church one hour before the service. John Edward Harrison, 71, departed from this earthly home and entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born in Blackville, South Carolina on February 16, 1944 to the Late Bernice Minus Harrison and Cluese Harrison. John received his early education from Macedonia High School and graduated in 1963. After graduation he moved to New York City, New York. Later, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served four years and conducted one tour of duty in Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge from the army, he was employed at Shuron, Ducane and Savannah River Site until his retirement. John was a faithful and devoted member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board and as a member of the C.E. Williams Male Chorus. As a loving and caring member of the Blackville Community, John was instrumental and influential in the development of many young lives while serving as the Little League Pee Wee Football coach in his earlier years and later volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors in Blackville. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post #252. John was known for his cooking abilities, every weekend you could find him at the American Legion Building selling hot fish sandwiches for everyone to enjoy. He was also known for making great fruit and chocolate cakes. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice M. Harrison; father, Cluese Harrison; and sister, Johnell Copeland. John leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Lillian J. Harrison; three sons, Shawn Harrison (Andrea), Anthony Odom, and Reginald Harrison (Ophelia); one daughter, Starlett Harrison; five grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, James Johnson, Sr. (Christine), Billy Johnson (Olando); three sisters-in-law, Stella Evans (John), Lynda Roberts (James) and Rose-Marie Raysor (Albert); one devoted cousin, Isabelle Parmlee, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Wednesday from 5:00- 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence of Lillian Harrison, 904 Oak Avenue, Blackville, SC and at the funeral home.
