Graveside services for the late Mr. John Howard will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Hope Memorial Park Cemetery, Barnwell, South Carolina. Elder William Smith will officiate.


Mr. John Lawrence Howard Sr was born on August 26, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina to Lillian Brown and the late Isiah German. He departed this life on October 28, 2016, after an extended illness.

Mr. Howard joined the United States Air Force in September of 1961 and served twenty one years. He served his country during the Vietnam War and in various positions while in the Air Force including Contracting Supervisor and Air Transportation  Supervisor. Mr. Howard earned many Air Force awards and medals to include Meritorious Service, Commendation Medal, Good Contact Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and the Overseas Long Tour Medal.

Mr. Howard traveled extensively throughout his military career, with stays in Iceland, Spain, and Portugal. After retiring from the military with honors, he served as contracting supervisor at Davis Mothan AFB in Arizona, and at Pope AFB in North Carolina. Mr. Howard or "Pop" as he was affectionately called, was a mentor to all who knew him.

John's father, Isaiah German preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Lillian Brown, Brooklyn New York; sister, Myrna Smith, New Jersey; four children, Denise Howard Jones of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Natalie (Clay) Howard-Robinson, Waldorf Maryland, John Howard Jr., Georgetown, South Carolina, and Lisha Jemmot, Virginia; four grandchildren , Brian Patrick Robinson, Atlanta, Georgia, Jordan Roberts, Stuart Florida, Kelson Reed,Georgetown, South Carolina and Greg Jemmot, of Virginia; two great grandchilren; special friends, Robert and Ann Tunnel of Spring Lake, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
