John E. Johnson, beloved son of the late Horace and Eva Mae Johnson, was born in Bamberg, South Carolina. On October 4, 2026, he peacefully departed this life at MUSC in Orangeburg, SC.

John spent his early years in New York City, dedicating twenty-five years as a skilled cook before returning to his cherished hometown of Bamberg, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by seventeen siblings.

 John leaves behind cherished memories for five brothers: Willie James (Naomi) Johnson of Columbia, SC, Larry (Angie) Johnson of Norway, SC, Nathaniel (Teresa) Johnson, Christopher Scott of Orangeburg, SC, and Walter Stokes of New York, NY. He is also survived by four devoted sisters: Frances (Ben) Mack, Cynthia (Michael) Sapp of Bamberg, SC, Bethel (Herbert) Erbie of Columbia, SC, and Elizabeth Scott of Kingstree, SC. His faithful cousin and caregiver, Ms. Frances Presley, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends, will forever remember him fondly.
