History: Joseph was born on December 3, 1933 in Bamberg, South Carolina to the late Pretto and Kelly James. He attended the public schools of Bamberg County. At an early age he joined Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where he experienced spiritual enrichment and guidance. Upon relocating to Florida, he continued his mission in Christ by worshipping at First Primitive Missionary Baptist Church of Sarasota, Florida. Upon retiring from the construction business, James returned home in November 2010. He was married to Flossie Halman. James was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Buster, Willie, Grady and Harry James and a sister, Ruby Manigault. He leaves to cherish fond memories four devoted and caring sisters, Evelyn Sellers, Helen Steedley, Thomasina (Raymond) Ottley and Mildred Wiggins all of Bamberg, SC; two sisters-in-law, Mary James and Hattie James of Bamberg, SC; A special caregiver, Rosa Lee Curry of Sarasota, Florida. Friends may call at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Helen Steedley at 188 Fire Tower Road, Bamberg and the funeral home. Sacred arrangements are entrusted to the Dash's Funeral Home of Bamberg.
