Lavern Evelyn Ginyard was born to the late Jessie Ginyard and Roline Washington on September 24, 1956, in Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York.

Lavern attended Franklin K. Lane High School and Medgar Evers College in New York. Laverne also retired from NYU Medical Center as a food service worker.

Lavern was preceded in death by her mother and father; Jessie Ginyard and Roline Washington. Her two sisters Bernita Bellafont and Sharon Washington. Two brothers; Karl Ginyard and Bernard Ginyard and one nephew; Rawn Ginyard
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Naquan B. Ginyard of Brooklyn, NY, and her God-daughter Tuwan Walker of Bamberg, SC. Sisters; Sharon Ginyard of Orangeburg SC, Marjorie Washington of York, PA, Gloria Taft of Leesburg FL, and Ruby Ginyard of Willingboro, NJ. Brothers; Muffy Washington of York, PA, Kenneth Washington of York, PA, and James Amato of Queens, NY. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
