Funeral services for Laverne Harmon will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Beulah Refuge Tabernacle at 1:30 p.m. Interment services will follow immediately at Belleville Memory Gardens. Viewing for the public will be held on Friday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Laverne McMillan Harmon went home to eternal rest Monday, July 16, 2012, at Providence Hospital N.E., Columbia SC, after an extended illness. She was born on August 8, 1952, to the late Timothy (Elizabeth) Nathaniel McMillan and the late Oreder Murdaugh McMillan, of Ashton SC. She graduated from Wilkinson High School; and S.C. State College with a B.S. Degree in Psychology. In 1971, Laverne married the late Joe Harmon, Jr. From this union, three children were born: Stephanie Renae, Damion Jerrell, and Candice Oreder Necole. Laverne worked, for many years, at Amblers Industries, Orangeburg SC. She later joined the family at Mrs. Betty's Day Care Center; where she worked until she decided to resign in November 2011. Upon moving to Orangeburg SC, with her family in 1965, Laverne joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Then in 1979, heeding the divine call of God to salvation, she received the baptism of Holy Spirit; and subsequently joined Pilgrim Glorious Church, before eventually becoming a Charter Member of Beulah Refuge Tabernacle in 1986 (pastored by Bishop David Smith). Laverne leaves to cherish her memories, her three children: Stephanie (Ramon) Garrett of Winston Salem NC, Damion (Nichelle) Harmon of Charlotte NC and, Candice Harmon of the home; four grandchildren: Ebony, Stephen, Sulaiman, Prince, and Nyla; one sister: Sannie Larraine (Leon) McMillan Wright; and one brother: Nathaniel O. (Gloria) McMillan both of Orangeburg SC; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
