Funeral services for Mr. Lee Edward Davis will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Blackville, South Carolina. Mr. Davis will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Interment services will follow immediately at Hope Memorial Park Cemetery in Barnwell, South Carolina, with military honors. Repast will be provided for family and friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church Felllowship Hall in Blackville, South Carolina. There will be viewing for the public on Wednesday between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Lee Edward Davis departed his life after a brief illness on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Azalea Woods Nursing Home. Born February 24, 1938 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Morgan and Lottie Davis. Lee Edward was educated in the public schools of Blackville, South Carolina. After graduating from Macedonia High School in 1956, he joined the United States Army. Once honorably discharged from the United States Army, he was employed as a truck driver and eventually retired as a heavy equipment operator at McAvoy Brick in Phoenixville, PA. On October 6, 1956, Lee Edward married the late Essie Mae Holman. To this union, one child, Velina Andrea, was born. He was a devoted father; grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He was a very private person who enjoyed the outdoors and watching westerns and eating chocolate. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Davis Evans. Lee Edward will be remembered and missed. Those who remain to celebrate his life and cherish his memories are: Daughter and Son-in-law, Velina and Larry Gloster, Blackville, SC; four Grandchildren, Eunice Y. Gloster, Larry L. Gloster, Jr., Joy R. Gloster of Columbia, SC, and SSGT Breeland M. Gloster of New Orleans, LA; one great-grandson, Kyan J. Dukes of Columbia, SC; six sisters, Ceonia (James) Albright, Mildred D. White, Emily Lee of Blackville, SC, Lillie Mae (William ) Tabb, Bettye (Manuel) Monteiro and Carrie Salley, Boston, MA; and one brother, Wilmer Salley of Boston, MA; an aunt, Elease Davis and a host of other relatives and friends.
