Leroy Douglas McClain, Jr. was born on November 28, 1943 to the late Leroy McClain Sr. and Ella Mae Stevenson-McClain. His stepmother was Mrs. Edna Bright McClain. He was born and raised in Florence, SC.

After graduating from Wilson High School in 1961, he studied Music Education (instrumental) at Claflin University and obtained a M. S. from North Carolina Central University. He was the Band Director at Edisto High School and the only Band Director at G. W. Carver High School. He taught adjunct classes at South Carolina State University and at South Carolina Correctional Institute in Florence, SC. He served as Band Director at Timmonsville Middle and High School, St. Anthony Catholic School, FSD1 Elementary Schools, Florence School of the Arts and Bethune-Bowman Middle/High School.

Mr. McClain was the owner and operator of Art Form Studios and McClain's Florist. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Exotics Band & Show and Gates City Lodge of 276 PHA.

In Florence, Mr. McClain was a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church where he served as Minister of Music, a member of the Administrative Board, the United Methodist Men and founder and director of the 5th Sunday choir.  In Orangeburg, Mr. McClain was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church serving as a member of the United Methodist Men, the Male Chorus and the Mass Choir. He also served on the board and music committee.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Deloris Darby McClain of Orangeburg, SC; three daughters, LaTonya Vickie Lemon (Joe) of Augusta, GA, Ellen M. Wilson (Duran) of Elk Grove, CA and Marquita Shavon McClain of Richmond, VA; two sons, Mark Edwin McClain (Keyha) and Michael Douglas McClain (Wanda) of Orangeburg, SC; one sister-in-law, Helen Darby, one brother-in-law, Leroyal Darby; fourteen grandchildren, Latasha (Kevin), Moneka (D'Wayne), Anita (Gregory), Washika, Christopher, Andre, Kionna, Heavenly, Makayla, McKenzie, Mark Jr., Asia, Alexander and Alexis; eight great- grandchildren, Christian, Chasity, Cloe, Chyna, Chris Michael, Cameron, Tonya and Brittani; Godchildren, Cynthia Obioha, Wendell Hillard and Harry Zimmerman; special relatives, Henrietta McClain, Janice Hawkins, Frances McClain, Carrie Mae McClain , Shirley Autry and Mary Louise Stevenson and a host of other relatives and friends.
