Mr. Lewis (Bubby) Rumph was born July 19, 1920 to the late Eugene (Moss) and

Hattie (Thomas) Rumph of Bamberg, South Carolina. Lewis was one of 8 children that all predeceased him. Lewis entered into his eternal rest at 4:10AM Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Monroe Community Hospital, Rochester, NY. at 100 years old with his daughter by his side.

Lewis met the late Pearl Wilson in NYC and they were married on August 5, 1947 in Barnwell, SC. They had two children from this union. He was affectionately called Pop by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Pop was a loving, faithful, and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. Several of us would not have acquired our higher education degrees if not for him. Whatever he could do for his family, friends, and church family, he did willingly.

Lewis was a resident of N.Y.C. for at least 70 years before moving to Rochester, NY. At that time he was living in Far Rockaway, NY. near his son Lewis and they helped and supported each other.

Lewis was a faithful member of the Greater Central Baptist Church, NY, NY for over 64 years He never lost his faith and love for the Lord. He was always being heard day and night singing hymns and his own songs to the Lord at the nursing home.

Lewis was a garage attendant and mechanic for many years.He was employed for many years by Fresh Meadows Housing Development/NY Life Insurance Co. in Queens, NY; Esso and then Exxon stations in Long Island, NY.  Many weekends he could be found working on cars for anyone who asked. In his later years he worked as a security guard and for a landscaping company.

When Lewis would come home to Bamberg, SC he would stay with his niece

Mary (Rumph) Montgomery and shared many good times with her, her husband, her siblings, and his cousin the late Elliott (Junior) Manigault.

Lewis was an avid juicer and walker. One of his favorite pastimes was walking down to Rockaway Beach and walking the boardwalk, walking barefoot in the sand, and collecting sea shells.

He leaves to cherish and mourn him his son, Lewis Eugene Rumph of Far Rockaway, NY; daughter, Eleanor Rumph of Rochester, NY; granddaughter, Tanya Ferguson of Rochester, NY; grandson, Jackie (Sophia)Rumph of Charlotte, NC ; granddaughter, Athena Rumph of NY, NY; granddaughter, Yvette Rumph of NY, NY and grandson, Naquan Smith of Far Rockaway, NY; great-grandchildren, Ta'Kara Jackson and Messiah Calloway of Rochester, NY; one sister-in-law of Brooklyn, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
