Lovely Mae Grimes, the daughter of the late Ellen Johnson Williams and Samuel Williams, went to be with the Lord on September, 2012. She was born in Bamberg, South Carolina and completed her education from the former Richard Carroll High School and furthered her education at Voorhees College. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. In North Carolina she was an active member and Mother of the Church at Church of the Foundation. Lovely Mae retired from the Department of Human Services in New York. She was an excellent gardener and cook. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles and making people laugh. Lovely Mae is preceded in death by her husband Curtis Grimes, her sister Ethel, and four brothers Frankie, Ernest, Russell and Willie James. Her survivors include her daughter Barbara Hawes (Curtis) of Monroe, North Carolina, two sisters Mary Williams of Monroe, North Carolina and Martha Williams (Charles) of Columbia, South Carolina; a brother in law; sisters in law; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Sunday from 12:30-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
