Luther 'Fred' Dukes was born in Barnwell, SC on April 24, 1947 to the late Clinton and Edna (Pressey) Dukes.  He was the 4th child of 9 born to this union.

The Dukes family's circle was broken once again, on Sunday, July 28, 2024 when Fred transitioned from his earthly home. while in hospice at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast.

During his lifetime, he was employed at Ducane Heating in Blackville, SC and Bodiford Farms.

As a young man, Fred loved to be in the company of his friends and this continued into his later years. If you visited him, you would often find him in the kitchen, as he believed that was where the food was and therefore where he needed to be because he loved to eat.

Regrettably, he was preceded in death by both of his parents; his brothers, Richard Pressey, Nathaniel Pressey, Earthel Dukes, and Willie Lee Dukes.

Fred will be fondly remembered by his two sisters, Ruth Kinard of Blackville, SC and Effie (Nathaniel) Porter of Springfield, SC; two brothers, Clinton Dukes of the home in Blackville, SC and McKinley Dukes of Denmark, SC; two nephews raised as brothers, Ronnie Pressley and Albert (Malissa) Pressley, both of Blackville, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
