Gregory Young **Mrs. Williams will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Information: Madeline Williams of Orangeburg, South Carolina, departed this life on Sunday, August 26. She was born in Fort Motte, South Carolina to Willie Hair and Mattie Wine Hair. Madeline was raised in Orangeburg where she matriculated in the local public school system; graduating from Wilkinson High. At an early age, Madeline joined the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Madeline was a faithful member of the church for over seventy years. As most of Madeline's family and friends knew, she loved to sing the Lord's praises and play the piano. She was a member of several choral units and sang many duets with her niece, the late Mrs. Lena Owens. After graduating from high school, she worked several years at the Kingdom Meat Packing Plant of Orangeburg, SC. Madeline moved to New York where she met her loving husband, the late Walter M. Williams. They were married for fifty-two years. Together they established a family business, Williams Service Center on Goff Avenue, which they ran together for over forty years until their retirement in 1999. Madeline was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Brenda Williams, Smyrna, GA, devoted nephews, Bernard (Vernell) Haire of Orangeburg, SC and S. Preston (Vernita )Cobbs of Columbia, SC, sister-in law, Willie Mae Williams of Orangeburg, close friends, Rosa Twiggs, Fairy Bell Zeigler, Oretta Williams, Brenda Cramer all of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Mable Garner of Union, South Carolina, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Saturday between the hours of 12:00 noon- 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence of her nephew, Bernard (Vernell) Haire, 919 Oak Street, Orangeburg and at the funeral home. Sacred arrangements are entrusted to Dash's Funeral Home of Orangeburg.
