Mrs. Mamie Counts Dowling, affectionately called "Mama Dee" was called to eternal rest on November 23, 2013 at Westminister Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Dowling was born on August 28, 1925 in Govan, South Carolina to the late Rosa Nimmons Counts and Paul Counts. She resided in Pennsylvania where she often spoke fondly of friendships developed during her early school years and vivid memories of worshipping at the Second Baptist Church. In her later years, she graduated from Orangeburg Regional Technical College as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was employed with Barnwell County Hospital where she faithfully served her constituents until her retirement. Mamie was married to Eddie Alex Dowling. Mamie lived a life devoted to the service of God and her children. She valued education and wanted to see others succeed to their fullest potential. Mamie was preceded in death by two siblings, Samuel Counts and Dorthie Mae and three children, Randolph Dowling, Mayetta Robinson and Pearl Nelson. Left to cherish her life and lasting memory are five daughters; Barbara Shepherd of Orangeburg, SC, Lynnette Robinson and Dianne Dowling of Columbia, SC, Kay Frances Dowling of Austell, GA and Sharon (George) Cox of Decatur, GA; one daughter-in-law, Thelma Patterson Dowling of Jessup, GA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty- two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Monday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm with a wake scheduled from 5:00- 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
