McGill entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Bamberg County Hospital. She is the daughter of the late Allen Wesley Powell and Mary James White Powell. Martha was united in Holy Matrimony to James McGill, who preceded her in death. Martha was educated at Richard Carroll School in Bamberg, South Carolina. She received her A.B. degree from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Martha taught at Voorhees Elementary School in Bamberg County Schools for a number of years. Martha was a life long member of St. John Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities to include Sunday School teacher, church musician and served as a member of the choir, for many years. Cherishing her fond memories are: a sister, Janie (James) Guess; a nephew, Dr. James A. Guess, Richard Hamilton and Ricky Powell; a niece, Patricia Powell; sisters-in-law, Willa Powell and Eartha Powell; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.
