Gregory Young **Mr. Phine will be placed in the sanctuary of the church one hour before the service. Matthew Phine was born in Rowesville, South Carolina to the late Ivory Lewis and Lillie Bell Robinson Phine. He passed away peacefully after an extended illness on November 5, 2013. At an early age, Matthew joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Rowesville. He attended the public school and graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1962 where he met and married the love of his life, Jennie V. Kennerly. This union was blessed with two children, Daryl and Argie. Matthew worked for several years at Azalea Meat Packaging Plant in Orangeburg before relocating to Brooklyn, New York. While residing in New York for forty years, Matthew retired from Sing Sing Correctional Facility after serving 25 years as a correctional officer. After retirement, he moved back to South Carolina in 2003. Cherishing Matthew's memories are: his wife, Jennie V. Phine of the home; one son, Daryl Phine of the home; one daughter, Argie (Glynis) Martin of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Delrachel Phine of Norway, SC, Bria and Devin Martin of Columbia, SC; a sister, Lillie Mae Hampton of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers-in-law, Claflin Kennerly of Orangeburg, SC and Thomas (Martha) Kennerly of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Thelma Balzeigler of North, SC; a favorite cousin, Clarence (Veretta) Abraham of Orangeburg, SC; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Viewing for the public will be held on Sunday from 12:00 noon-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
