Mrs. Mildred Murdock Simpson was born on August 26, 1936 in Bamberg, South Carolina. She was the oldest of seven daughters, born to the late Milledge and Carrie Mae Utsey Murdock.
On October 8, 2018, she departed this life at The Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, South Carolina.
At an early age, Mildred joined Claflin United Methodist Church in Bamberg, South Carolina. She later joined Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Cope, South Carolina, where she was a faithful member.
She was a class leader, member of the senior choir and an original member of the Emanuel Female Chorus.
Mildred was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Walter Simpson and to this union, three children were born.
One daughter, Karen S. Jamison and a sister, Lucretia Goodwin preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories—two daughters: Linda Simpson of Cordova, SC and Waltena Simpson of Orangeburg, SC; one son-in-law, Charles Jamison of Orangeburg, SC; five sisters: Delores Washington of Far Rockaway, NY, Helen Jennings of Orangeburg, SC, Ruthie (James) Williams of Denmark, SC, Lillie Bell (Edward) Shepherd of Bamberg, SC and Sarah Murdock of Far Rockaway, NY; step sisters: Sallie McMillan, Christine Robinson and Lillian Legree all of Bamberg, SC; one brother-in-law, James (Emma) Simpson of Cordova, SC; two dear friends: Annie L. Busby and Louise Jennings and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing for the public will be held on Sunday from 12:00 noon- 8:00 pm at the Orangeburg Chapel.
Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Waltena Simpson, 2175 Hoffman Drive, Orangeburg, SC.
