We honor and celebrate Josephine Minus as a daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, niece, friend, and phenomenal woman who loved her family, gave generously, and modeled a quite strength with dignity and class.

Josephine was born in Blackville, SC on October 5, 1934 to the late Deacons Isaac Sr. and Edith Minus.  As a young girl, Josephine attended Macedonia High School, Blackville, SC where she graduated with honors.  She continued her academic excellence as she attended Benedict College, Columbia SC and The George Washington University, Washington, DC, receiving her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Arts degrees respectfully with honors.  During her time at Benedict College, Josephine became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was a member of the Missionary Society.

Prepared with degrees in mathematics education, and higher education, Josephine enjoyed a successful and impactful career as a secondary mathematics teacher.  She began her career in Statesboro Georgia, Bullock County, at William James High School where she taught for 15 years.  Later, Josephine moved to the Washington, DC metropolitan area where she taught in the District of Columbia Public School system for 23 years.  Josephine retired her teaching career after 38 years of dedicated service.

Josephine joined the Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville, SC at an early age and served faithfully in various capacities.  When Josephine moved away from home, she always found time for church and joined the Round Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD and served faithfully for years. Relocating back to South Carolina, Josephine made the city of Columbia her home.  With a desire to unite with a church family, Josephine joined the Gill Creek Baptist Church where she was active in the Missionary Society ministry until her health failed.

Josephine Minus lived her life to the fullest and demonstrated a quite strength that brought a feeling of security and comfort to everyone around her.  After battling a host of health ailments, Josephine was finally called home on July 15, 2018, and ascended to Heaven with grace, dignity, and surrounded by love.  Josephine's legacy continues through her sister, Ella, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of  cousins of the Minus, Daniels, and Willis families.
